Julia’s life is comfortable, if unremarkable, until her sister’s brutal murder opens old wounds. She finds solace in her sister’s best friend, Sophie, but when Sophie reveals the extent of her sister’s online life, Julia becomes convinced that the truth about her death lies deep in the dark, sordid world of online chatrooms and internet sex.
What begins as Julia’s search for the truth about her sister quickly turns into an exploration of herself and her own desires. After all, the internet is her playground, and why be just one thing when you can be as many as you like? What could possibly go wrong? After all, it’s only cybersex, isn’t it? No one’s going to get hurt.
But then she meets the dark and mysterious Lukas in an online chat room, and things begin to get very dangerous indeed.
Wow, this book is phenomenal, I don´t say that very often, I found this to be better than the fantastic debut book, Before I Go To Sleep, ( I even watched the film with my husband and he enjoyed it) so the author really had his work cut out for this one and I think he did it. This is one of the few books I have read in one sitting, a CPID book, (cannot put it down).
Family life seems boring and routine to Julia and after the death of her sister she gets involved with someone online and here is where her life goes pear shaped. The character development is great, it is written in the first person, from Julia´s point of view and this means you really get inside her head and her thoughts. The characters are believable. The start is the only weak point as it is fairly slow.
I did wonder at times why Julia did what she did, why couldn´t she stop before she got too involved, all this added to the suspense, but she is a weak character, easy to manipulate. There were a couple of moments that were predictable, but they fitted in nicely with the story. It is scary how much social networks are in our lives now and how much personal information can be found out with a few clicks. The ending was faced paced and full of action. Great title and cover. I hope you all love this as much as I did.
